Q

I opened an account with your Bank, and the only time I have used a particular address is for that account. Now I am recieving "Junk Mail" at that address!

A

If you have your name and address on a check, and you give that check to a person or company to purchase something or pay a bill, that person or company can create their own list by taking your name and address right off of the check. It is an unfortunate sutuation, but we have no control over what other companies do with the name and address information on a check that you have given to them. If you order checks from an outside check vendor rather than ordering checks through the Bank, we have no control over what that outside check vendor will do with the information you provide them. If you order checks through the Bank, we have a contractual relationship with our vendor to keep your information confidential. In addition, if you order checks through the Bank, you can request that the checks be sent to the Bank for you to pick up rather than having them sit in your mailbox until you get home.

I got a Home Equity Loan from your Bank, and within a few weeks of getting the loan, I received all kinds of mail about that loan! How did that happen?

Q

I got a Home Equity Loan from your Bank, and within a few weeks of getting the loan, I received all kinds of mail about that loan! How did that happen?

A

Whenever you get a loan or line of credit secured by your home, the Bank has to record a Deed of Trust on the property. The Deed of Trust is recorded with the county recorder, and all information on the Deed of Trust becomes public information. Anyone can get that information from the county recorder. Many finance companies and other marketers create mailing lists from information they get from the county recorder and other public sources of information. We have no control over the information available from a public source such as the county recorder.

The OCC Consumer Assistance Group (CAG)

The OCC Customer Assistance Group was created to answer questions, offer guidance, and assist consumers in resolving complaints about national banks and their subsidiaries.

The first step is to try to resolve a complaint directly with your bank or its operating subsidiary before involving an outside agency. If you are unable to do so or are uncertain about whether your complaint involves an organization that the OCC supervises and regulates, the OCC Customer Assistance Group will try to assist you.
